What is the Shellback app?

Shellback, previously known as eDivo, is a mobile application designed to assist US Naval Surface Force (SURFOR) personnel in a user-friendly offline setting.

What does Shellback mean?

In naval custom, a Shellback is a term for a Sailor who has crossed the Equator, marking the transition from a novice Sailor (Pollywog) to a seasoned one.

Why consider using Shellback?

Shellback grants Sailors the capability to download essential SURFOR data onto their personal devices for offline access while at sea, eliminating the necessity for an internet connection. It serves as a centralized location for up-to-date and pertinent information tailored to SURFOR Sailors, with content scheduled for yearly updates.

What kind of information is available in Shellback?

Admin/Training: Contains the Correspondence Manual and SURFOR Training and Readiness Manual.
Medical: Comprises the Manual of the Medical Department, details on medical and physical readiness, mental health resources, Medical Evaluation Board protocols, Disability Evaluation System information, support for family member readiness, and more.
Operations: Includes materials and guidance on bridge management, fundamental navigation practices, watch team equipment, crew endurance strategies, air-capable ship operating procedures, Air Certification for Naval Surface Force Ships, and manuals covering amphibious operations, maintenance procedures, and other general ship operation references.
Personnel Management: Offers documentation on Navy personnel policies and administration procedures. It incorporates legal guides and manuals, resources targeted at Surface Warfare Officers, and an array of general personnel management references.
Safety: Contains documents concerning lessons from incidents, mishap reporting guidelines, safety-related notifications, commendations related to safety, and general safety references.
